On June 1st, the Sam Beauford Woodworking Institute will celebrate the graduation of 20 of our talented Wood Design students. This significant event is a testament to our dedication to advancing the craft of woodworking and enriching our community through education and skill development.
This year, we honor a graduating class that embodies the spirit of diversity and resilience. 35% of students are veterans who have brought their remarkable dedication from the battlefield to the workbench. Another 25% are women, breaking barriers in a field where they represent only 3% of the workforce. Their success is a powerful statement about the importance of inclusivity and opportunity in skilled trades. 16 of the 20 graduates relocated to attend this program, from California, Colorado, Indiana, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Mexico, South Carolina, Wisconsin, the UK, and northern Michigan.
We will be showcasing their hard work and talent in a special Wood Artisan Exhibition held at the Adrian Armory on Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1. The exhibition is free to the public and open from Noon-5pm each day. There will be items for sale, and contact information for each graduate to commission future work.
The success of these graduates and everyone at the SBWI is due largely to our supporters over the years. We are grateful for our students, staff, and supporters and we hope to continue to share successes like this for years to come.
