Sharpening Edge Tools

Program Description:

Have you ever wanted to unlock the secrets of a razor-sharp edge? Join instructors Steve Skornicka and Noah Smith for a one day workshop on sharpening hand planes and chisels. The key to using hand tools correctly is a sharp edge - learn how the masters make it look so easy. Learn several techniques to make your hand plane and chisel edge “shaving sharp”. Students are encouraged to bring along their own hand planes and chisels to tune up during class, but you can also sharpen our tools (we don’t mind!)

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about the different types of grinds

  • Learn the differences between sharpening stones

  • Learn how to choose the right abrasive

  • Learn about different sharpening angles

  • Find the right sharpening method that works best for you

  • Even learn a little Metallurgy (the study of the physical and chemical behavior of metallic elements, their inter-metallic compounds, and their mixtures, which are known as alloys)

Attendance Requirements: Students must attend all days
